What could I possible offer to these children? Could I cope with what I was going to see? These were just some of the questions I had before leaving the UK.

My bags were packed and overflowing with gifts and equipment for the children I was going to meet and work with. When I first met the children not only was I overwhelmed by how many there were but most of all how happy and friendly they were. They all wanted to shake my hand and seemed so pleased to meet us. My question of ‘what I could offer them’ seemed even bigger? These children poured out unconditional love and acceptance. To be able to spend time and play alongside them was such a privilege and a time I will always remember.

Driving in Addis was an experience in itself. There seem to be no highway code and the roads were in a very bad condition. The streets were lined with homeless men, woman, children and babies, living in whatever they could find to protect themselves. The poverty was almost too much to take in.

What I gave these children was my time and money what they gave me was priceless. Yes I could cope with what I saw but it will be forever in my memory.
